In The Room March 2026 Theme: Emergency / Notfall
For one day each year, about 30 people - who have never been together in one room - gather in a livingroom and share things they have made.
From 14:30 til 21:00 we saw films, heard excerpts from books, listened to poems, songs, tracks, ideas: creations made by people who were in the room. We don’t all know each other. New people come every time. We wrote, created and brought works on the theme of emergency.
I keep seeing the mechanism of an emergency at work. We move from a “normal” situation where a certain set of complex rules apply. Then you need to sense and feel that those rules don’t apply anymore because an acute and serious situation is happening. In English, it emerges. Entirely opposite rules to those you usually live by might govern in an emergency. Time and action passes. Without fully understanding how, you’re back in the world of normal rules. The emergency is over. Anyway, this is our theme this year.
Works touched upon death up close and afar, what emergency is and isn’t, prepping for the apocalypse, dreaming up left-wing strong women, the expulsion of Nagorno-Karabakh Armenian people, missing children, loss of love, needing the toilet, change within after an emergency, mysterious arch constructions, the dark and light in our lives as well as instrumental and sound tracks.
